Ingredients

  • 60ml espresso
  • 14-18g ground coffee

Description

A Doppio, which simply means “double” in Italian, is a double shot of espresso. It is the standard espresso size in many coffee shops around the world, offering a more substantial and potent coffee experience compared to a single shot (solo).

Fun Fact

While a single espresso is the norm in Italy, the Doppio has become the de facto standard for espresso-based drinks in the United States and many other countries. If you order a “latte” or “cappuccino,” it’s almost always made with a doppio.

Preparation Recipe

  • 14–18g of finely ground coffee
  • 60 ml (2 oz) of water at 90–94°C (195–202°F)
  • Extraction time: 25–30 seconds

Preparation Techniques

  • Requires a double-shot filter basket for the portafilter.
  • The grind, tamp, and pressure should be just as precise as a single shot, but with double the amount of coffee and water.
  • Often extracted using a double-spout portafilter.
