Ingredients
- 30-60ml espresso
- 150-240ml steamed milk
- 5-10ml milk foam
Description
The Caffè Latte is a milk-heavy coffee drink that consists of a shot of espresso and a generous amount of steamed milk, topped with a thin layer of foam. Its smooth, mild flavor makes it one of the most popular coffee choices in cafes around the world.
Fun Fact
While “caffè latte” is Italian for “coffee and milk,” the drink as we know it became popular in Seattle and other American cities in the 1980s. It is also the primary canvas for “latte art.”
Preparation Recipe
- 1–2 shots of espresso (30–60 ml)
- 150–240 ml of steamed milk
- Served in a 240–300 ml (8–10 oz) glass or large cup
Preparation Techniques
- The goal is a smooth, integrated drink, so pour the steamed milk steadily into the espresso.
- Create a fine, velvety microfoam rather than the thick, airy foam of a cappuccino.
- The high milk-to-coffee ratio is what defines a latte, making it much less intense than other espresso drinks.
